Compass Properties Earns International Award For Facilities Management & Sustainability

Solar panels will be added to Park West II this summer, producing 27,600 kWh of power and energy savings of $4,600 per year.

Compass Properties, a Wisconsin-based company real estate developer, recently won the Platinum Award of Excellence from Global FM, the worldwide alliance of facilities management organizations. The award, given on behalf of the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA), was bestowed as part of the 2017 World FM Week, an international celebration of facilities management. The other winners included the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (Gold) and Discovery Place in South Africa (silver).

The award-winning entry, entitled “Creating a Model for Sustainable Facilities Management,” focused on Compass Properties’ blueprint for building and implementing sustainable practices that reduce waste, encourage healthy lifestyles, and conserve energy.

“We work hard to make sustainability a strong part of our culture,” said Todd Greenwald, the Compass Properties executive who spearheads the company’s sustainable facilities management practices. “For all of our properties, we set out with 3 goals in mind: reduce waste, encourage healthy lifestyles, and implement energy saving programs.”

The Global FM awards aim to elevate the very best facilities management projects to a global stage. The 2017 theme was ‘enabling positive experiences’ in recognition of the impact facilities management has on positive customer, client and employee experience in all sectors, according to Global FM.

“The submissions for the 2017 Global FM Awards represented extremely innovative projects and strategies that highlight the great advancements occurring in the facilities management industry,” said Jacyln Lee, coordinator of the Global FM Excellence Awards 2017.

Greenwald said that when done correctly, sustainability can be contagious. “It can motivate tenants, employees and even community partners to seek out and collaborate on new ways to improve the environment and support healthy lifestyles.”

“We’re honored to earn the FM Global Platinum Award,” he continued. “It really validates the importance we place on sustainable facility management practices throughout all of our Compass Properties buildings.”
